6 FAMOUS PEOPLE FROM DELAWARE

CAESAR RODNEY  was born on October 7, 1728, in Kent County, Delaware.  He was a lawyer and a politician from St. Jones Neck, east of Dover, and also was an officer in the Delaware militia during the French and Indian War and the Revolution. Rodney was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, a Continental Congressman from Delaware and President of Delaware during much of the American Revolution.  Rodney died at Poplar Grove in St Jones Hundred, in Kent County on June 29, 1785 at age 55.

JAMES TILTON born on June 1, 1745, Dover, Delaware. He  was an American physician and a soldier from Delaware, and also a delegate for Delaware in Continental Congress 1783-1784. Another office he held was as Surgeon General of the U.S. Army during the War of 1812. He died in 1822 near Wilmington and is buried in the Wilmington & Brandywine Cemetery. 

CHARLES I. duPONT  was born on March 29, 1797, in Charleston, South Carolina.  He was an American manufacturer and politician, also owner of DuPont, Bauday & Co; wool manufacturers.  He was also a member of the Delaware General Assembly.  DuPont died on January 31, 1869 near Greenville, Delaware.

HENRY A. duPONT was known as «Colonel Henry».  He was an American soldier (vet of the Civil War) and a politician (two terms as a U.S. Senator from Delaware, 1905-1917) from Winterthur near Greenville, Delaware. DuPont was born at Greenville on July 30, 1838. He died in Greenville on December 31, 1926, at the age of 88.

JOSEPH ROBINETTE «JOE» BIDEN,JR  is currently the 47th vice president of the United States. He was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on November 20, 1942. Among other offices, he was the U.S. Senator from Delaware from 1973 until 2009, when he took over his duties as vice president.
